
About Janie
Biography
Frances Jane "Janie" Guy-Winter is a native of Baton Rouge. She made her debut in Baton Rouge and was also the queen of Mardi Gras. She was nominated for Darling of L.S.U. and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in humanities emphasizing in the arts. She has many art shows to her credit. Janie studied the art of makeup in Hollywood at the world renowned Pasadena Playhouse, alma mater to many celebrities & makeup artist of Hollywood (including Paul Newman!), and has worked for fashion photographers as a make up artist.
She was a world traveler by the age of 13 when her father took her around the world for summer vacation and has lived in many unique places. She is a writer and has been published in newspapers and several magazines and was recognized by the Ted Turner Foundation for her work, the book World Peace, A Possible Dream. She has also written and illustrated a children's book.
She is also an artist. When she lived in Texas she was the Art Director the Antique Doll museum which housed over a million dollar collection of dolls. She was responsible for designing the displays and the settings of the entire collection. At that time, she was also commissioned to do a Madonna and child painting for the famous attraction in Galveston, the Sonnetheil House that was built in 1885.
She was a licensed real estate broker in three states and has owned several national historical monuments which she bought and restored. During her real estate period, she had a real estate company F.J.G. Real Estate, which managed her property holdings and developed Caribbean Village on the west end of Galveston.
Before her real estate adventures, she owned an advertising company in Houston, Jane Guy Innovations. Some notable clients were Rolls Royce, World Airways, The Summit, where she organized the Total Art Experience and the Astrodome, where she organized the World Living Festival. Her advertising agency was recognized by The Houston Post and the Houston Chronicle and all major radio stations.
Janie Winter also was a teacher in the Baton Rouge elementary school system. Governor Mike Foster honored her at the State Capital the first year she taught school for her 4th grade students winning first, second, and third place in the NASA Space Contest. The second year she taught he honored her and her inner-city fourth grade student (who won first place that year) in his home, the Governor's Mansion. The contest is presented by NASA/NSTA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration/National Science Teachers Association) and is an Intergalactic Art and prose entry for the Space Science Student Involvement Program. A total of 8,000 entries were received, representing over 10,000 students and 1,250 teachers/advisors. The letter informing her of her student's achievement each year read, "Your deserved recognition brings pride to you, your school, your family and your community."
Jane Winter has been honored by her peers by receiving their recommendation to be included in the book Women of Today published by the American Biographical Institute, Inc. This nomination is brought to the attention of the Board through such various sources as individual personal nomination, organizational memberships, media research, academic/institutional recommendations and civic and fraternal group nominations. Such nominations reflect a respect for leadership and personal accomplishment.
